The guys  set out early for the church this morning to begin work on the Fellowship Hall roof and kitchen.   Chris, Eric, Gary, and Rob joined Gilbert and Jose from the Apache Church to form the roofing team.  After spending time setting up shop, they tore off all the old decking, and began to install the new decking.  It was hot  (105 degrees by 2pm!), but amazingly the guys were able to complete about 1/3 of the new decking before stopping around 2:30.  They were very pleased with their progress, and plan to get even an earlier start tomorrow.   Richard and Blake began work on the kitchen refurbishment project. They finished the destruction phase of the project, and began construction of the new kitchen wall.  The guys commented that because of the heat, they made sure they had ample opportunity for water breaks, and the team time together was really great. (They also mentioned something about asking Eric if he has any mustard???)

Originally the women and children had planned to host the first day of VBS, but because there was a big  parade scheduled on Monday morning in Anadarko , it was decided to postpone starting VBS until tomorrow.  This allowed us to attend the parade, which included organizations from the local area, including all the native Indian tribes, many wearing native costumes.  The heat was pretty brutal, but with some great Indian costumes, lots of candy and beads, and being sprayed  by a water-gun float, the kids were happy.

The remainder of the day was pretty low key, with lots of fellowship, game-playing and staying out of the heat.  Rob provided the evening devotional, reminding us that we each have unique gifts to bring to the mission field, and that God has provided these gifts according to His plan so we can work together  to  accomplish His deeds.

Tomorrow….VBS!
