The guys headed out early for another day of roofing and kitchen construction at the church. The VBS team followed about an hour later, and spent a short time decorating and setting up before the children arrived. A small but energetic group of kids showed up, and we had a great time learning new songs, hearing Bible stories, coloring, playing games, and trying out some science experiments. The Christ Church kids helped out, and also enjoyed getting to know some new friends.
At the same time VBS was going on in the church, Nancy, Cindy, and Hannah were performing some real dirty work - cleaning up the donated cabinets and stainless steel sink , which are to be installed in the kitchen. They also surveyed the current landscaping around the church, and made plans to clean up the beds and mulch tomorrow.
The kids spent some free time doing the traditional sliding down the hill on boxes, then lunch was provided by 'the ladies' at the church. As always, their hospitality was amazing. After lunch, the women and children went back to 'tent city' for some downtime. The guys finished up their work late in the afternoon, then joined us for dinner. During the evening, several of us went to the Anadarko Fair Grounds for the annual American Indian Expo to see the Native American dance competitions. The competitors ranged in age from toddler to senior, both male and female, and performed in their native regalia (costumes), many which have been handed down over generations.
The day was long, our children were tired, and we were ready for sleep. Day 4 is done.
