The construction crew left even earlier today (before 6am) so they could get even more cool time to work. The entire front side of the roof has been decked, but the roofing work is proving to be a bigger task than anticipated due to the need to fix roof damage before laying new decking. In addition, the heat is so intense that the team has to take frequent water breaks. The goal is to at least complete the decking - the men from the local church could complete the shingling if necessary. The kitchen project continued to move along well, with a brand new wall in place and plumbing completed. The landscaping crew made excellent progress in cutting back bushes and placing most of the twenty-seven bags of mulch in the beds. The VBS crew had an amazing day with the kids. God was working overtime in developing relationships between the Christ Church and Apache Church members. Smiles and hugs were everywhere…a clear indication of Christ's love shining through.
After VBS, the ladies again provided a wonderful lunch spread of salad, goulash, corn, and cake. We cleaned up and headed back to the conference center to regroup and clean up. Then in the evening, we made our way back to the church for dinner and worship. The ladies prepared Indian tacos for dinner (which look similar to Mexican chalupas with a fried bread bottom instead of a tortilla). Incredible!
We finished eating and then joined together in worship. The praise music during the worship service was very inspirational, and included a traditional Indian song led by one of the senior women, which roughly translated meant 'Blessings for Everyone'. The praise team musicians include three of the ladies who also provide the wonderful meals! They are truly a gifted group of women with a contagious faith in God. After several songs, Pastor Rudy gave a short devotional, and our mission leader, Chris Mitcham was a guest speaker. Then the ladies of the church expressed their thanks to our mission team for coming and being God's hands, noting the importance of their church in the community, and what our efforts mean to them. They presented gifts to each team member, mostly handmade by them or one of their family members. Their gratitude was so heartfelt , you could feel God's presence as they prayed for His blessings upon us.
As we finished out our day together back at our 'home', we all reflected on what a great day it was. Truly, God is good.
