We concluded our 4th day of touring today which finishes our tour of the Galilee region. We traced many of the Old and New Testament sites including the Sermon on the Mount location found in Matthew 5-7, and the ancient Roman cities of Zippora and Bet Shean. Bet Shean is the site where King Saul lost his life in a great battle with the Philistines (I Samuel 31). We visited Gideon’s spring, the site of the victory of the 300 men over the Midianites (found in Judges 7). We concluded our day with a service of Baptism in the Jordan River.
I took particular pleasure in visiting the site of the spring of Gideon. In route we saw such powerful places as Mt. Tabor which is outside of Nazareth. Here, the gospels record Jesus being transfigured into the glory of the God. We also saw the Gilboa Mountains.
Our day ended at the Jordan River. At a site developed especially for Christian Baptism, I was honored to administer the sacrament to three adults.
As this day ends, we prepare ourselves to turn towards Jerusalem to visit the powerful sites there. This has been a true journey of God.
