Prayer opens our hearts to the power of God’s love. Prayer is how we become channels of God’s love for the world. Prayer is a gift from God – He wants to hear from us!

Brothers, rejoice. Become mature, be encouraged, be of the same mind, be at peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. – 2 Corinthians 13:11 HCSB

Lord Jesus, how powerful a small word becomes when it settles into the soul of another—just a “hello,” a “bless you,” or a “thank you” gives strength. A sentence written in a card or note has encouraged me and helped me go on. May I be the bearer of encouragement to others—those who need a smile and a kind word. May I be willing to pitch in and help or share someone’s burden. Amen.

Prayer for the New Year

A land which the Lord thy God careth for: the eyes of the Lord thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year. – Deuteronomy 11:12

God of beginnings, be with us as we ring in the New Year! Be with my family and friends, my church, my community, my nation, and this whole wide world of people who are waking up to a fresh start. And please be with me, too! Thank you, Lord, for all you have in store for me this year. Let me be a willing partner in your plans.
